Coast Guard Police Department
The Coast Guard Police Department is a diverse force of Active Duty, Civil Service Civilian, and Civilian Contract members. The department is able to respond to events in all environments from unimproved beachfront, to suburban housing area, to industrial areas, to public events.
The Coast Guard Police Department (CGPD) carries out law enforcement operations on areas under the command of Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Training Center Cape May. The CGPD is one of the most important elements of the TRACEN's Physical Security Program.
Arrival
Training Center Cape May is a CLOSED military base and has only limited access to the general public. If you are interested in a tour of the base, you must make arrangements in advance with the Public Affairs staff at (609) 898-6362.
All parties wishing to gain access to the Training Center must present a valid military identification. All members of the party 18 years old or older must provide picture id for entry. Individuals not in possession of a military id must report to the Security Building and be cleared for a guest pass.
Reporting to Training Center Cape May
Welcome to Training Center Cape May! New permanent party arriving during normal business hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday should proceed to the Servicing Personnel Office located in the Mission and Command Support Building on the 2nd floor. They will contact your sponsor and get you started with the check-in process.
If checking in after hours or on a weekend/holiday, check in with the Officer of the Day. They can be reached at (609) 898-6915 or (609) 780-1346.
Access
Vehicles that arrive on base must also present valid id. Any vehicle not sponsored by a military id must also receive a vehicle pass from the Security Building. All vehicles must be driven by a licensed driver and be able to produce the following:
- Valid Driver's License
- Current Registration
- Proof of Insurance
Any person or vehicle entering Training Center Cape May is subject to search as per 18 U.S.C. 1382.
Visitor and Vehicle Pass Issue
Visitor and vehicle passes are issued to any person or vehicle not sponsored by a military identification card including government contractors and parties with prior command approval. Passes are issued at the service window of the Security Building. Normal working hours are Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding federal holidays. After hours passes are available, but may take longer to process. The contact number for the Security Building is (609) 898-6915.
Bicycles
Bicyclists are required to wear a safety helmet to ride the bicycle onboard the Training Center.

Citation Policy
Training Center Cape May currently issues DD Form 1408 Citations for all traffic offenses. Your driving profile will allow an accrual of 10 points per calendar year at a non-monetary value. Members who collect 10 or more points in one year will have their driving privileges onboard the Training Center revoked.
Speed Limits
The following speed limits are strictly enforced:
- Base 20 mph
- Housing 25 mph
Marching Recruits
No vehicle shall pass a marching recruit company with seven or more recruits at any time.
Colors
Operating a motor vehicle is prohibited during morning colors (0800) and evening colors (sunset). Colors is when the flags are raised and lowered and are usually accompanied by the playing of the National Anthem or Bugle call.
