Master Chief Stephen Dykema assumed his duties as the Command Master Chief for Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown on 14 June 2013.
As the senior enlisted advisor to the Commanding Officer, Master Chief Dykema advises him on workforce issues, is the senior enlisted mentor, and acts as the sounding board for select administrative actions and initiatives relative to the day-to-day activities of the Training Center, the staff, and the student population.
Prior to assuming his duties as Command Master Chief, he was assigned as the Command Master Chief for the Fifth Coast Guard District. His other assignments include: Operations Division, Thirteenth Coast Guard District; USCGC RED OAK, Philadelphia, PA; Administration Division, Coast Guard Group Charleston, SC; USCGC MADRONA, Charleston, SC; Recruit Company Commander, Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, NJ; USCGC DALLAS, Charleston, SC; Servicing Personnel Office, Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown, VA; Recruit Battalion Commander, Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, NJ; Program Reviewer, Coast Guard Headquarters; and Command Master Chief, Force Readiness Command.
Master Chief Dykema is a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer’s Academy, graduate of the National Defense University Keystone Course, and has completed numerous other service related schools.
Master Chief Dykema’s awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, and numerous other personal and service awards, including selection as the Coast Guard Enlisted Person of the Year in 1998. He has also earned his permanent cutterman insignia, the Recruit Company Commander insignia, and both the Gold and Silver Command Master Chief badges.
Master Chief Dykema is married to the former Jessica Turner of Decatur, AL. They live in Newport News, VA, and have three children, Joshua, 13, Andrew, 10, and Ruby, 9.
