National Search and Rescue School 

Overview

The National SAR School is the world's premier source for Search and Rescue (SAR) training. The joint Coast Guard / Air Force staff provides training in oceanic, coastal, and inland search planning procedures to SAR professionals from all U.S. military branches, various U.S. government agencies, volunteer SAR organizations, as well as members of the international SAR community.

Courses

  • Maritime Search Planning (MSP) Course - The Maritime Search Planning (MSP) Course is a 3.8-week resident course designed to train U.S. Coast Guard, Navy, and Air Force personnel, as well as international students (officers and enlisted) who perform Maritime Search Planning in the coastal and oceanic environments.
  • Search Coordination & Execution (SC&E) - The SC&E course is a four-day exportable basic SAR course. The objective is to instruct on the fundamentals of search coordination, planning, and operations. The course is directed towards students that will conduct SAR operations at the On-scene coordination (OSC) and search and rescue unit (SRU) levels.
  • SAR Mission Coordinator Course - The SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) course is a 5-day course designed to provide an overview of critical SAR policies and procedures for personnel within the SAR chain of command who do not require the detailed full 3.8-week MSP course.
  • International SAR - The National SAR School teaches a variety of International SAR training courses including Maritime SAR Coordination and Execution, Maritime SAR Planning, International Maritime SAR Planning w/manual plot solution, SAROPS, and Inland SAR.
