Captain Eric King reported to Force Readiness Command (FORCECOM) in July 2020.  In his role as the Chief of the Training Division, he oversees world-wide training and education for the U.S. Coast Guard.  He is directly responsible for all resident and classroom training, distance learning and its training enterprise composed of eight national training campuses and 12 regional, specialized training sites.

Prior to his assignment to FORCECOM, Captain King served as the Commander, Sector San Juan.  As Sector Commander, he led 650 active duty, reserve and civilian men and women to conduct all Coast Guard missions in the Eastern Caribbean. He exercised a variety of statutory authorities in a 1.3 Million Square Mile area of responsibility as Captain of the Port, Officer in Charge – Marine Inspections, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Federal On-Scene Coordinator and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator.

From 2014-2017, he served as Chief of the Training Department in Training Center Petaluma, California, where  he led a 300-person staff in the delivery and execution of training seven entry-level “A” Schools and 31 advanced technical skill “C” School courses for the mission support ratings (Operations Specialist, Storekeeper, Yeoman, Health Service Technician, Culinary Specialist, Information Systems Technician and Electronics Technician) that produced over 3,000 graduates annually.

Captain King also served as the Chief of Response at Sector Mobile from 2011 to 2014, where he oversaw all search and rescue, law enforcement and pollution response missions in Alabama, Mississippi and the panhandle of Florida.

A 1995 graduate of the U. S. Coast Guard Academy, Captain King served on cutter VIGOROUS as a Deck Watch Officer following graduation.  His previous assignments consist of two Tactical Law Enforcement tours including Officer in Charge, Law Enforcement Detachment Five Golf in Fort Macon, NC (1997 to 1999) and Officer in Charge, Coast Guard Deployable Pursuit Boats onboard USNS PERSISTENT (1999 to 2001), Sector Charleston Command Center Chief (2006 to 2009) and Coast Guard Liaison Officer to U.S. Navy Third Fleet (2009 to 2011).

After  his Tactical Law Enforcement tours, he attended Florida State University and received a Masters Degree in Instructional Systems in 2002.  He then served at Training Center Cape May, where he received his Masters in Business Administration from Rutgers University (Camden) in 2005.  In addition, he completed Joint Professional Military Education (Phase One) at the Naval War College in 2012.

His awards include the Legion of Merit, three Meritorious Service Medals and four Coast Guard Commendation Medals among many other personal, unit and campaign awards.

Captain King calls Doylestown, Pennsylvania and Avalon, New Jersey home.  His wife, Wendy, is a Registered Nurse and they met at Florida State.  They have one son, Finley, who is four years old.  They live on Bolling Air Force Base and are looking forward to becoming immersed with fun things to do in the area.  He likes to workout and cook and hopes to get back into playing ice hockey after three years of sunshine in Puerto Rico.
