LCDR J. Sky Holm

Lieutenant Commander J. Sky Holm, a native of Los Angeles, California, graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Logistics and Intermodal Transportation and a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine License – Third Mate, Unlimited Tonnage. On the same day of graduation, June 20th, 2005, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Coast Guard.
Lieutenant Commander Holm reported to ETQC from CGC VENTUROUS, where he served as Executive Officer. During his two-year tenure, VENTUROUS upheld her outstanding reputation, contributing to mission success in Counter-Narcotics Operations, Living Marine Resources Enforcement, Migrant Interdiction, Search and Rescue, Defense Operations, and Homeland Security. Additionally, VENTUROUS was involved in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief efforts in Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane MARIA.
Prior sea tours include Commanding Officer CGC KODIAK ISLAND in Key West, Florida; Weapons Officer CGC CHASE in San Diego, California; and Deck Watch Officer and Support Services Department Head aboard CGC ACTIVE in Port Angeles, Washington.
Recently contributing in a FORCECOM assignment, Lieutenant Commander Holm served from September 2012 to May 2016 in FORCECOM’s Training Division (FC-Tot) at Coast Guard Headquarters. As a Training Manager, he managed the Cutter Forces, Law Enforcement, and Marine Transportation Systems training programs, which included managing two enlisted ratings, 75 advanced training courses, 5,800 annual student quotas, and $9.7 million in annual training funds.
Lieutenant Commander Holm holds a Master of Science degree in Instructional Systems from Florida State University. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, in addition to various other awards. In May, 2010, Lieutenant Commander Holm earned a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Master's License for vessels up to 1600 Gross Tons.
Lieutenant Commander Holm and his wife, Ashley, have a daughter, Carlisle Jayne, and a son, Chase. Ashley is a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, assigned to Atlantic Area.
